Lynne C. Torkelson

Lynne Carol (Kirchoff) Torkelson, 76 of St. Peter, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018.
Lynne was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Lorraine and Al Kirchoff and raised in Hudson, Wisconsin. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1964 with a degree in Medical Technology. Lynne was united in marriage to Michael Torkelson on June 11, 1966. Following Mike’s discharge from the Air Force, the couple moved to St. Peter in 1968. Lynne worked at a number of jobs in the medical profession and also at Gustavus and Scholarship America. A special interest of Lynne’s was the Gustavus International Friendship Family Program which she co-chaired for a number of years. Lynne and Mike hosted a number of students from many countries and still maintain contact with these students.
Lynne is survived by her husband of 52 years Mike, sister Julie (Bob) Edstrom, sister-in-law Janet Hansen-Mellom. Additionally she is survived by nieces and nephews Kristina, Jessie (Erik), Shawn (Amanda), Erik (Angie), Andrew, Erik (Amy), and Kjersta (Chris); Eleven great nieces and nephews and close friends Barb and Denny Booren and Helen Ihring. She was preceded in death by her parents, and in-laws Joyce and Vernon Torkelson.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, January 13, 2019 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Gustavus Adolphus College Center for International and Cultural Education or the St. Peter Food Shelf.
