Eugene "Gene" Isakson

December 6, 1936 — November 1, 2018

Gene (Ike) Isakson, Professional Engineer, age 81 of Saint Peter, passed away peacefully November 1, 2018 at Benedictine Living Community of Saint Peter, with family by his side.   

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Peter, 1801 W Broadway Ave., Saint Peter, Minnesota.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be held immediately after the service at the Calvary Cemetery, Saint Peter.   Memorial gifts may be sent to VINE Faith in Action, 421 E Hickory St, Mankato, Minnesota 56001, Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.

Gene was born to Lester and Margaret (Biebl) Isakson in New Ulm, Minnesota on December 6, 1936 and grew up in Gibbon, Minnesota.  He married Janice Pettis on April 27, 1957 in Gibbon, and they raised five children in Mankato, Minnesota. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and watching Minnesota Gophers, Twins and Vikings ball games.

Gene graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and enjoyed working as a civil engineer for over 50 years.  He started his career at the State Highway Department in Mankato.  He then worked at the Portland Cement Association and North Star Concrete.  He was a founding partner of Mankato’s I&S Engineering and then went on to work at Wheeler Lumber, was the Sibley County Engineer and later a consultant for Erickson Engineering.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Margaret Isakson, and his sister, Celine McGowan.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jan Isakson of Saint Peter; sister Carla (Gary) Lagerstedt of Spicer, Minnesota; children Tim (Marta) Isakson of Forest Grove, Oregon; Greg (Teresa) Isakson of Red Wing, Minnesota; Steve (Jill) Isakson of North Mankato, Minnesota; Julie (Curt) Clemen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Jennifer Jones of Gilbert, Arizona.

Gene enjoyed spending time with his 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was a blessing to us all and will be greatly missed.
