LeRoy "Jim" Miller

LeRoy “Jim” Miller, age 93 of St. Peter passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 after a struggle with Parkinson’s.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Catholic Church of St. Peter with visitation beginning at 9:30am. Burial with Military Honors will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family.

LeRoy James was born December 7, 1924 in St. Peter to Albert and Emma (Young) Miller. He attended District 40 Country School and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1943. Shortly After, he served in the US Army in WWII as a Sargent in the Pacific Campaign. On October 12, 1950 he married Margaret Regenscheid at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Peter.

Jim was a city and later rural carrier for the US Postal Service for 28 years. He was also a livestock farmer, caretaker for Calvary Cemetery and active member of the St. Peter Catholic Church. Jim was a lifetime member of the VFW and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was proud to have served many years with the local Honor Guard. Jim was one of two left in the WWII Veterans Last Man’s Club formed in 1973 with a membership of 70. They and their departed comrades were honored with a closing banquet at the American Legion in April 2017 and later as Grand Marshals of the St. Peter 4th of July Parade. Over the years, Jim enjoyed bowling, sports, deer hunting and raising horses which led to the restoring of many buggies and sleighs to the enjoyment of older relatives and friends to take a ride down memory Lane.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret; son Dale (Claudia Murphy) of Fairfax VA, two wonderful granddaughters: Winnie (Troy Vernon) Miller of San Francisco CA and Alissa Miller of New York NY; Sisters-in-law Marie Miller and Leona Miller both of St. Peter and Betty Regenscheid of Mankato; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Bernard, Andrew, Charles, Robert, Kenneth and Karl; sisters: Evelyn Wedin, Irene Schoen, Coletta Mielke and Lucille Halbert.
