Dorothy Lucille Olson

Dorothy L. Olson, 88, died June 1, 2017, at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 9, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter Funeral Home with a one hour visitation prior to the service. A private family burial will follow. Memorials are preferred to the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dorothy was born on August 30, 1928 to Gust and Rachel (Petterson) Orn in Finley, North Dakota. Dorothy attended school here until the family relocated to Pine City, Minnesota in 1945. She attended St. Cloud College for one year and then transferred to Gustavus Adolphus College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. Dorothy married Ray C. Olson on June 11, 1950 in Rush City, Minnesota. She worked for St. Peter Implement, was the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, and she taught piano for 12 years after Paul and Kevin were born. Dorothy began secretarial work for Olson & Mackenzie in 1963, which later became Olson & Olson Accounting, until her retirement in 1993. Dorothy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church; she sang in the choir and was a church organist for ten years. She was also member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and P.E.O. Dorothy loved knitting and crocheting and donating her handmade items to charities. She also enjoyed golf, cards, and bonding with her grandchildren over piano lessons. She was a fun and zany woman that wore many different hats.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Paul (Star) of Tucson, AZ and Kevin (Gayle) of St Peter, MN; grandchildren: Rachel (Michael), Joshua, Brandon (Brooke), Amanda (Frank), Zachary, Jonathan, Micah (Amanda), Brianna (Joseph) Samuels, Rebecca (Jason) Fratt, and Noah; great-grandchildren in order of birth: Nathaniel, Brooklyn, Tristan, Kodie, Briah, Lucas, Alejandra, Abigail, Brogan, Bray, Landon, Eli, Jaxon, Logan, and Lilly; brother-in-law, Tim Andrews; sisters-in-law; Bernice Orn Dykstra and Helen (Olson) Nephew.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; her brothers, Victor and Norman; sister, Elaine Anderson; sister-in-law, Valerie Andrews; and brothers-in-law, Axel Anderson and Keith Olson.
