James Everett Sawyer

October 4, 1933 — April 19, 2017

James Everett Sawyer, 83 of St. Peter, died April 19, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will follow the service at Greenhill Cemetery.

James was born on October 4, 1933 in Le Sueur County to Lyle and Glenn (nee Kessel) Sawyer. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1951. After serving in the United States Army, James worked as a welder for Crysteel Inc for many years. James was a member of the American Legion Post 518 in North Mankato and he was in the Color Guard. He also actively volunteered for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Special Olympics. James enjoyed hunting, especially deer and duck, fishing, and being out on the farm.

James is survived by his children: Kathy (Mike) Gessner, Margaret (Terry) Taugher, and Michael “Mick” (Victoria) Sawyer; grandchildren: Beth, Greg, Andy, Tom, Taryn, Matt, Kaira, Dalton, Isaac, Marina, Allyssia, Alesha, Dee, Brittany, Calli, Alex, Tim Jr., Barb, and Becki; 16 great-grandchildren; best friend, Dan McKinley; special friend, Buck; and many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents; daughter, Deb; brother, Bob; and sister, Joyce.
