Donald Wenner, age 86 of St. Peter and Madison Lake, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 1017 at home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Thursday, March 9th at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with burial at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be 3:00 – 6:00pm Wednesday at the church with a Prayer service at 6:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour before the service Thursday. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Donald was raised in rural Mapleton and moved with his family at age 15 to farm in rural St. Peter. Don spent his life farming. Farming was always in his heart. He was married to Ruth Peterson on June 15, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and cherished 61 years with her. Eventually, he retired on Lake Washington and most recently shared time at Windsor Pond in St. Peter.
Don’s Hobbies were golfing, watching grandkid’s sporting events, his coffee groups, riding and visiting on his Gator or 3 wheel bike. He sang with the church choir and men’s traveling polka choir. Don enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, bowling and card club. At one time, Don was on the Shoreland Country Club board and served as chair. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and member of the Church of St. Peter. He loved the annual family vacations up north, Wenner Christmas, family and friends. Grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to him.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his children: Chris (Donald) Underwood, Connie (Mark) Bollum, Carol (Jeff) Knutson, Cathy (Bruce) Leonard and Chuck (Jill) Wenner; grandchildren: Ryan (Kristin) Underwood, Casey (Tim) Wussow, Luke Bollum, Matthew (Samantha) Knutson, Blake (McKayla) Leonard, Nate (special friend Shyanne Rodning) Wenner, Kendall (special friend Owen Little) Wenner and Alex Wenner; great grandchildren: Lucy and Jack Wussow & Huntley Leonard ; siblings: Marianne (Butch) Sohre, Mert (Margaret), Clifford “Skip”, Clete, Ken (Phyllis), Wendell Jr. (Dot), Donna (Paul) Zins; sisters-in-law: Betty Wenner and Rita Weingartz; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth on June 27, 2015, granddaughter Ashley Leonard in 2012 and brother Eugene in 2016.
