Helen Miller, age 89 of Mankato and formerly of Richfield, died on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Laurel’s Edge in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with Fr. Todd Petersen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. Memorials may be directed toward Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice in Mankato. St. Peter Funeral Home – Klein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen Jane was born on May 1, 1927 in Kasota to Charles D. and Katherine M. (Monahan) Schmidt. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Miller in 1950. They made their home in Richfield where she was a homemaker and was a member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church. Later in life, she served the church in several ways by volunteering. She enjoyed birds, flowers, gardening and sewing.
She is survived by children: Mike (Jodi), Joan (Greg) Porten, Ron and Steve; four grandchildren: John, Laurie, Ben and Daniel; great granddaughter Madison; sister Genevieve Thompson and brother Charles “Bud” (Jean) Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 2011 and a brother, Vernon Schmidt.
