Louis John Walechka was called to his place with the Lord on October 13, 2016 after a long battle with Heart Disease, Parkinson's and Lewy Bodies Disease. Visitation will be Monday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Church of Nativity in Cleveland, MN. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 11 am at the Church of Nativity with a visitation one hour before the Mass. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church are preferred. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Louis was born to Lawrence and Mary(Burns) Walechka on 2-24-1938 in St. Peter, MN. He attended and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Catherine Elizabeth Fasnacht on November 22, 1958 at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, MN.
Louis was a dairy and crop farmer and earned the FFA American Farmer Degree. He was active in many areas of his community. He served in the MN National Guard, 4-H leader, Knights of Columbus, Cleveland Township Board Treasurer(21 years), Cleveland School Board Treasurer(9 years), Lions Club member, American Legion Post 207 member serving as Commander and Gambling Manager. In his spare time he enjoyed his children and grandchildren's activities, including high school and college sports. He especially liked to watch football and going to wrestling and swimming meets. He enjoyed spending time with Catherine while they golfed, played cards and bingo. Together they travelled to Mexico and Hawaii with Janice and John Lynch, and went to Sunday night dinners with friends at the Chateau/Kokomos. He was a long time usher at Church of Nativity and enjoyed going to morning coffee with friends.
Louis is survived by Catherine, his wife of almost 58 years. He is the very proud father of one daughter and eight sons who were very thoughtful and supportive of their father. Jerome and Jackie(Sack) of Elysian, Andrew and Janet(Juliar) of Le Center, Michael and Cindy(Pearson) of Minnesota City, Daniel and Gale(Brunsen) of Madison Lake, Lawrence and Gina(Blaschko) of Cleveland, Rosemary and Dave Rusch of Prior Lake, David and Vickie(Evers) of Cleveland, Louis’Rick’ and Holly(Grams) of St. Clair, Peter and Jenny(Rosenbush) of Muskego, WI. Brother Robert John Danaher, Brothers and Sister in-laws Jeanette Lange, Judy Bruels, Sister Carolyn Fasnacht, James and Kay Fasnacht, Phyllis and Arnold Morris, Richard Fasnacht, Raymond and Marny Fasnacht, Grace and Wayne Griffiths, Tom and Cheryl Fasnacht, Angie and Steve Hage, Mitzi and Lorin Krueger.
Louis was proud of his grandchildren, Jacqueline, Mya, Rebecca, Mary, Eric, Bradley, Alexander, Connor, Nicholas, Jillian, Robert, Katelyn, Derek, Andrew, Ethan, Rachel, Lucas, Jason, Collin, Jordan, Austin, Aaron, Benjamin, Olivia, Noelle and Louie. And of his 2 great-grandchildren, Michael and Lucy Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law, special cousin William Harris, sister in-law Patricia Danaher, brother in-law Tom Lange, sister in-law Mary Pat Fasnacht, nephews Army Ranger 1st Lieutenant Michael Fasnacht, Bruce Fasnacht, Robert Danaher and Tom Danaher.
