Gilman “Gil” Carlson, 68 of St. Peter passed peacefully surrounded by many family members Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.

Memorial Mass is 11:00 am Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Church of St. Peter, St. Peter with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 3:00 to 6:00pm Friday at the church and also one hour before services Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the St. Peter Education Foundation. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Gilman Lee was born on January 11, 1947 to Lowell and Lorayn (Klemenhagen) Carlson. Gil was principal for several years at St. Peter High School and Superintendent of St. Peter Public Schools District 508 from 1993-2003. Upon retiring as superintendent he was State Director for North Central Accreditation Association from 2003-2009.

Gil was an active member of the St. Peter Lions Club, having served as President 1983-1984 and was awarded the Melvin Jones Award in 2013; St. Peter Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as president in 1995; St. Peter Public Affairs committee for the chamber; St. Peter Education Foundation, serving as chair for many years; Minnesota Association of School Administrators and its Foundation; and the Church of St. Peter. Gil loved celebrating life with his family and friends and was well known for his hearty laugh and good humor.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Peggy; son Eric (Lindsey) Carlson, St. Peter; daughter Kristin (Eric) Fritschel and granddaughter Abby, Elk River; Lee Palmer and sons Nick, Sam, and William, Dell Rapids, SD; Jennifer Palmer, Henderson; Alex Palmer, Mankato; brother Lowell (Carol) Carlson, Brainerd; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane in 1995 and his parents.
