Gordon A. Erkel

Gordon A. Erkel, age 87 of St. Peter, died on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Luverne, MN. Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 am on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday at St. Peter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. Gordon Ambrose was born on February 16, 1928 in Mankato to Ambrose and Clara (Weber) Erkel. Gordon served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1952. On February 16, 1957 he was united in marriage to Pauline Taylor at St. Peter and Paul Catholic in Mankato. Gordon worked at Dotson Foundry in Mankato for over 40 years before retiring. He was also a member of the GMP Union. He enjoyed making sausage and syrup, listening to music, watching movies, coffee with friends and the animals on his hobby farm. In his later years he enjoyed playing bingo and watching The Price is Right with nursing home friends. Gordon is survived by his wife Pauline; son: Gordon Bruce (Cindy); daughter Paula Bell; grandchildren: Ruth Anne Bell, Jed Bell and Jacob Erkel; bothers: Jerry (Alma), Donny and Jim; sisters: Pat Erkel and Betty (Howard) Michels; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ambrose and Clara; Brothers: Leonard and Bobby; sister Marilyn Marti; brother-in-law Jim Marti; sister-in-law Barb Erkel; foster mother: Laura "Gilly" Gillen and special family friend Liz Johnson.
