William M. Hohenstein

ST. PETER - William Marvin Hohenstein, age 72, of St. Peter, died October 2, 2015 at his home in Traverse Township. He was surrounded by family. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter, with interment at the St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at St. Peter Funeral Home Klein chapel from 2:00- 5:00 pm with a Prayer service at 5:00. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. William (Bill) was born December 7, 1942 in Madelia, MN to Marvin and Kathleen (Keogan) Hohenstein. He attended Nicollet Public School and graduated in 1960. Bill then served four years in the Minnesota Army National Guard. On July 30, 1966 he married Joanne Galles at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Traverse Township. In 1971 Bill and Joanne moved to the Galles family farm, which Bill farmed until 1999. Bill also worked part-time at the St. Peter Lumber Company and the Nicollet Creamery. He was a member of the Nicollet School Board, the Nicollet County Soil and Water Supervision District, the Knights of Columbus, and the Nicollet Lions. Bill enjoyed out fishing the Bakkes, hunting, collecting arrowheads, playing cards, cooking, and spending time with loved ones. Bill is survived by his wife Joanne; his children William Hohenstein and wife Julie, Kristine Giefer and husband Jay, Edward Hohenstein and wife Desiree, Michael Hohenstein, and Thomas Hohenstein and wife Sara; his siblings Darwin Hohenstein and wife Theresa, Karen Fritze and husband Wally, Mary Sue Stanke and husband Bruce, Ken Hohenstein and partner Jen Bauer, Rick Hohenstein and wife LeAnne; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John. In Lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Nicollet Public Schools or the Church of St. Paul in Nicollet.
