Gareth Smith, age 34 of Big Lake MN, died Sunday July 26, 2015 at the Monticello CentraCare Hospital. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00pm Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter, MN with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Family interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. Memorials can be directed to www.gofundme.com/gareth . St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Gareth Edward was born on January 7, 1981 in St. Peter to Wayne and Joann (Skilling) Smith. He was baptized and confirmed at the Church of St. Peter. Gareth is a graduate of St. Peter High School and received his degree in Applied Science from Minneapolis Community College. He was currently employed in IT at Maslon Law Office in Minneapolis. Gareth was a member of the St. Peter Red Men Club. Gareth enjoyed hockey; he played on teams in his youth and continued to play into adulthood. Gareth had a passion for cars, especially his BMWs. He spent countless hours fixing and upgrading them. Gareth had a passion for computers, technology, and people. Gareth touched the lives of countless friends and he treated everyone he met like he had known them for years even if he had only known them a short while. He had an infectious smile that could light up any room. Gareth was always caring and willing to help others. He had a beautiful soul that will be missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Joann and Wayne; fiancé Casey Carlsen and her family; siblings: Marnie (Chris) Ploog, Karlie and Alec (Amber); nieces and nephews: Lydia and Gavin Ploog, Kaleb and Kennedy Hubrig and Tristan Smith; aunts and uncles: Dave (Peg), John (Deb) and Greg (Danette); many cousins; and non-related family: Cory Carlsen, Cody Olstad and Chris Wakefield. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jae; grandparents; Uncle Gary Smith; and close friend Bruce Lee.
