Mary C. “Sis" Holmstead

Mary C. "Sis" Holmstead, age 89 of St. Peter, died on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the River's Edge Hospital in St. Peter. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mary was born on March 25, 1925 in Virginia, MN to John and Hannah (Torkkola) Sisel. She attended Virginia Community College and then graduated from the College of St. Catherine -St. Mary's Hospital Unit. She worked as a nurse at St. Mary's until she married James F. Holmstead on September 11, 1948 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Virginia. She was employed by Immanuel Hospital in Mankato and the St. Peter Community Hospital. She then worked in a dental office until retiring. Mary is survived by children: James C. of St. Peter and Mary Jo (Royce Marshall) of Boise, ID; grandchildren: James P. (Becky Sue Thong) of Spencer, IA and Lisa (Pat) Phernetton of Elberfeld, IN; and great grandchildren: Mykenna and Tyler Phernetton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and a sister.
