Samuel "Sam" M. Haugdahl, age 76, of St. Peter, died after a short battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. Peter Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Peter. Sam was born August 10, 1938 to Abner S. and Georgia E. (Mason) Haugdahl in St. Peter. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1957. He served in the Minnesota National Guard. Sam worked with his father and later owned the family business, Haugdahl Oil Company. He later was a real estate broker for Haugdahl Realty until his retirement. Sam was a member of Duck's Unlimited, Minnesota Water Fowl Association, and St. Peter Ambassadors. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, playing cribbage, morning coffee at McDonald's with his friends, his faithful companion - his rescue dog, Gus, and spending time with his family. Sam is survived by his five children, Brad (Tena) Haugdahl of St. Peter, Dee Ann Dahlke of Willmar, Steve (Paula) Haugdahl of Inver Grove Heights, Jon (Kathy) Haugdahl of Hayes, VA, and Jim (Sadie) Haugdahl of Eagan; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; mother of his children, Carol Haugdahl of Cleveland; sister, Sandy Swenson (special friend, Jim McVoy) of Oro Valley, AZ; and extended family. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
