James Robert Beatty, age 82 of St. Peter, passed away on Wednesday, October 03, 2007 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Charles Degner officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 on Friday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran School.

James was born on December 18, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert W. and Edna (Kinner) Beatty. He attended rural elementary school and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1942. He married Verda Witt on November 9, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

James was employed with Nesvig Equipment Company, Toews-Mahr Implement, Seitzer Implement, Santleman Implement, and with Nicollet County as Assessor. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1958, where he served as Treasurer and on the Elders Committee. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #37, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Last Man's Club of Gaylord, the Jaycees Organization, and the MN Association of Assessing Officers which he served as state president in 1988, and he was on the St. Peter Police Reserve for a number of years.

Jim served in WWII, being drafted in 1943. He took his basic training at Camp Roberts, California and then was sent to Fort Ord, CA., then to Camp Phillips, Kansas and to New Orleans and then shipped out to New Guinea and then to the Philippines and saw action on Luzon. He was called back during the Korean Conflict in October 1950 and took his refresher training at Fort Lewis, WA and then was sent to Fort Bliss at El Paso, TX where he was assigned to a Guided Missile Unit. He was discharged in September 1951.

During the early years of his retirement he also delivered "Meals on Wheels" and helped seniors with Medicare forms. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildrens' sports events. Jim and Verda also enjoyed 18 years in the winter months in Rio Grande Valley, Paradise Park and Pharr, Texas where they made and enjoyed a host of good friends.

He was a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

He is survived by his wife Verda of St. Peter; children: Thomas (Barbara) of Faribault, Bruce (Debra) of New Ulm, and Patrice (John) Cornelius of Sunnyside, WA; Eight grandchildren: Matthew Beatty, Emily (Beatty) Hoefs, Martha Beatty, Dana (Beatty) Pemrick, Sarah (Beatty) Luna, Laura (Beatty), Sammon, Megan Cornelius, and Nathan Cornelius; great-grandchild Amelia Elizabeth Pemrick; Sister-in-Law Alice Stephenson of Naples FL; Cousins Eileen Beebee of Hibbing, Shirley Foerster of Luverne, Bernita Crasper of Sioux Falls SD and Bruce Kinner of Elkton SD.

He is preceded in death by his parents Robert W. and Edna and other relatives.
