Don was born to Allie and Lydia (Braam) Willaert on August 24, 1922 in Mankato. He worked as a farmer for Myles Lorentz of Mankato and after retiring with him, he farmed for Gerald Lorentz of Gaylord. On January 30, 1954 he was united in marriage to Harriet Denn at St. Joseph the Worker in Mankato. Don truly enjoyed building his utility sheds and vegetable and flower gardening. It became a battle of wits between him and the rabbits who loved to feast on his lettuce. He also loved country drives until his final days.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his two sons: Steve (Cindy) and Dave; four daughters: Kathy (John) Marang, Shari (Rick) Hoffman, Donna (Bob Stark) Gleb and Rosemary (Lon) Christensen; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; siblings: Helen Schons, Patricia Northhammer and Hunts Willaert; and many nieces and nephews.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his wife Harriet; five brothers; and five sisters.

A special thank you to the staff at Grandview for the excellent care they provided.
