Lawrence Overn, 86, retired Nicollet County Auditor passed away on Friday October 26, 2007 at ISJ Hospital in Mankato.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 30 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Monday at St. Peter Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting to the family with arrangements. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Overn was born on April 25, 1921 to Harold and Wilhemina (Palmer) Overn in St. Peter. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Peter high School. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College for one year and then graduated from the Minnesota School of Business.

He married Margaret Shirley Terry on January 1, 1942. They lived in St Paul where he worked for the American Hoist and Derrick until being inducted into military service. He served as a staff sergeant in the 103rd Infantry Division in the European Theater. His military medals include the Bronze Star. They returned to St. Peter after the war and he became a partner in the Lindberg Hardware Store. In January of 1955 he went to work as Deputy County Auditor and in February of 1962 was appointed Nicollet County Auditor where he served until his retirement in 1985.

He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran church in St. Peter where he served for six years on the church council and 10 years as church treasurer. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, the St. Peter Last Mans Club, and was a member of the Masonic Order.

Mr. Overn is survived by his wife, two sons: Terry (Sherry) of Le Center, and Steven of St. Paul; three daughters: Sheila (Chuck)Alexander of Murfreesboro TN , Lorri (Bob) Duff of Pensacola FL and Lisa (Jason) Buchholz of Shakopee; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; one brother: Harold Jr. (Jean) of Tucson AZ; one sister Helen Smith of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
