Margaret Jane Michael passed away on June 8, 2014 at the age of 91 years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Church of St. Peter with Rev. Todd Petersen officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m., Thursday until the time of the service. Private burial at Marysburg Cemetery at a later date. St. Peter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Margaret was born on September 1, 1922 on their Lake Washington farm. She was the eighth and youngest child born to Edward and Jane (Smith) Quirk. She graduated from Cleveland High Scholl in 1940. After graduation she moved to St. Paul where she worked for Montgomery Ward and the University of Minnesota. On January 23, 1942 she married Kenneth Michael at St. Lukes Parish in St. Paul. They were blessed with 14 children. They lived in St. Paul, later moving to Richfield, then to Hutchinson. In 1952 they moved to Kasota and remained there for 58 years.

In 1968 Margaret took a job as a Teachers Aid for the St. Peter Head Start Program. During that time she started working for a teaching degree at Mankato State University. She attended class evenings, Saturdays, summer sessions and whenever possible to earn credits. She received her Teaching degree in 1975 and became Head Teacher until her retirement in 1984. After retiring she worked for Demos Unlimited for 11 years. Margaret was active in the Church of St. Peter on the Funeral Committee and the Thrift Store. She volunteered at the Food Co-op, conducted story hour at the Kasota Library and was on the Welcoming Committee.

Her hobbies were gardening, bird watching, sewing, caring for her dog, canning and hosting lunches for the ladies.

There was nothing Margaret wouldn't do for her family. Her greatest pleasure was cooking for a family get together, sharing stories of her growing up years, and helping in any way she could. She was the rock we leaned on for strength and the one we turned to. Her passing has left a void that will never go away.

In 2010 Margaret moved to Heritage Meadows in St. Peter, then to Benedictine Court Assisted Living in 2013. In April of 2014 she went into Benedictine Living Community. We would like to thank the Benedictine Staff for the wonderful care they gave our Mother.

Margaret is survived by nine daughters, Sharon Warning, Barb (Michael) Conroy both of St. Peter; Rosemary (Tony) Shanks of Prior Lake, Patsy (Dave) Dauffenbach of Anoka, Colleen of St. Paul, Peggy (Rick) Walter, JoAnn (Mike) Vaughn, both of Cleveland, Lisa (Shannon)Horblit of Wheatland, WY, and Paula (Dan De Mars) of Honaka, HI; four sons, Steven of Mankato, Mark (Bev) and John of Cleveland, and Greg of Lone Pine, CA; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1997, and 11 year old daughter Cheryl in 1958. Also by her parents, three sisters and four brothers.
