Pernell J. Gault, age 79 of Brea, California, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pernell Gault was born March 7, 1935 to Esther Highberg Gault and Lorenzo James (Bink) Gault. She grew up in St. Peter, Minnesota, graduating from St. Peter High School. She then went on to graduate from her mother's alma mater, Gustavus Adolphus College in 1957, with a degree in English. She taught English in South St. Paul and Red Wing, Minnesota before moving to the Los Angeles area to teach for another 33 years. Pernell earned her Master's Degree from Cal-State, Fullerton and was awarded a one- year Sabbatical leave in 1975 to research new methods and techniques to implement and improve oral communications skills. She was named Mentor Teacher in her district in 1985, and developed a step-by-step booklet on how to plan, outline and write an expository essay and strategies, which could also be used by teachers in other subject areas. Pernell served as a site representative for her teacher's union, and before retirement, was a substitute teacher for nine years.

Pernell loved to teach, read and learn. She continued her life-long learning attending adult community education seminars at a local community college. Throughout her teaching career, she also cared for her mother Esther Gault, and traveled many summers back to St. Peter. She enjoyed spending time with her relatives, and had a passion for literature, theater and chocolate. In her free time, she enjoyed reading the L.A. Times or Shakespeare and loved to watch her Angels baseball team.

Per faced the challenges of a devastating disease, and died peacefully at her home. Pernell is survived by her brother Z. Sam Gault of St. Peter, sister, Mary Lincoln Durbahn of Farmington Hills, MI; 11 nieces and nephews, 7 great nieces and nephews and four great-great nieces and nephews. Pernell was preceded in death by her parents and brother James L. Gault.
