Larry E. Skramstad, age 70 of St. Peter, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from complications after a 10 year battle with prostate cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Urn burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 " 8:00 pm on Friday, February 1st at the church with a prayer service at 7:30pm. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Larry Earl was born on July 17, 1942 in St. Peter to Earl F. and Irene A. (Fitzhenry) Skramstad. His mother died during childbirth and he was raised by his paternal grandparents, Emil and Alma Skramstad until his father returned from military service. His father later married Mary Bresnahan when Larry was in the first grade. He attended John Ireland School through the 8th grade and while there learned piano, saxophone and drums from Sister Hubertine. He then attended Saint Peter High School, graduating in 1960. During his schooling, he worked several jobs including: delivering papers, mowing lawns, and working at Erickson Lumber, the Wettergren Dairy and janitorial duties at the Episcopal Church. In October of1960 he went to the barber college of St. Paul, completing his studies in April of 1961 and started working at Neil's Barber Shop in St. Peter. Eventually he managed the shop for Earl Mayo. From 1961 " 1967 he served the Service Battery 125th Artillery as supply sergeant.

In 1972 Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rosie (Pfarr) Johns. Joining this union were Rosie's children, Jody (9) and Joel (7). He later spent 25 years as the club manager for the American Legion in St. Peter. Larry worked for the Legion Club until resigning at age 55. He then worked 10 years for LJP Enterprises at the scale and office at the Ponderosa Landfill in Blue Earth County until his retirement at age 65. In retirement he kept busy with part time work for Lager's in St. Peter and at St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel.

Larry was a member of the Mankato Eagles Aerie 269; the Redmen Club in St. Peter; the St. Peter American Legion: serving as the district 3 chaplain, education committee and scholarship committee for a 10 county area; and the Knights of Columbus as a 3rd and 4th degree knight. Larry enjoyed bowling: 200 average; horseshoes: winning the 1st Capital Days tournament with 117/200 ringers; fishing: especially fly fishing, 45 fly in fishing trips to Canada and also Gull Lake with a vacation club of 5 couples; singing: for weddings, funerals, St. Mary's Catholic Church Polka Mass, and the State POW Convention memorial service in Mankato; playing "Santa" for 52 years in a row; and playing drums with Bernie McGuire. Larry loved his family and is very proud of them.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Rosie; children: Jody (Steve) Miller and their children Lindsay Rose and Brynn Marie; and Joel (Karen) and their children Matthew Joseph, Sophie Jill and Cal Michael; brother Pat (Michelle) and their children Nick, Luke and Bryan; the Fitzhenry cousins: Tom, Kevin, and Jeanie; godchildren: Kathy Fitzhenry, Colleen (Johnson) Baker and Mary Ellen (Pfarr) Miller; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother during childbirth, and parents Earl and Mary.
