William W. Lerud, age 87 of Kasota, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System, St. James.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Kasota Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Morson Ario Post 9713 or Disabled American Veterans Chapter 10.

William Warren was born November 13, 1925 to Clarence and Ida (Gjevre) in Hoople, ND. William served for the United States Army from 1943-1945 during WWII and was wounded and honorably discharged. He reenlisted from 1948-1952 during the Korean Conflict and was also honorably discharged. On June 27, 1970, William was united in marriage to Kathryn M. Lindahl in Mankato. He was an active Charter Member of Morson Ario VFW Post 9713 Mankato and local Chapter #10 Disabled American Veterans. William was a gifted musician, he played many musical instruments in bands and orchestras his entire life, but most well known for his mastery of the accordion and fondness of "old tyme' music. William loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and shooting sports and a good game of cards. He spent countless hours volunteering in his retirement. Always quick with a story and a joke, William's humor was contagious and will be missed by all who knew him.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Kathryn; children: Willa (Lerud) and Jay Dailey of Mankato, Shawn Lerud of Minneapolis, Hiedi (Lerud) and Wayne Howell of Mankato, Lisa (Lindahl) and Jeff Reddemann of LeCenter, Larry Lindahl of Shakopee and Lori (Lerud) Compton of Waldorf; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

William was preceded in death by his parents; grandchild, Adam Lindahl; and four brothers: Carl Randulson, Allen Lerud, Clifford Lerud and Richard Lerud.
