Marlys Christa Johnson

Marlys Christa Johnson, age 76 of St. Peter, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at her home. Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 25, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Monday at First Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed toward First Lutheran Church/Johnson Heritage Fund, Gustavus Adolphus/H. Stuart & Marlys C. Johnson Scholarship Endowment Fund, Scholarship America/Johnson Heritage Fund or the Foundation for Fighting Blindness. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marlys was born on March 18, 1937 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Clifford and Freda Johnson. She attended St. Cloud Tech High School, graduating in 1954. She continued her education at Gustavus Adolphus College, graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English and Social Work in 1958. Later she attained her master's degree from Mankato State University. On April 9, 1960 she was united in marriage to H. Stuart Johnson at Salem Lutheran in St. Cloud.

Marlys is survived by her husband Stuart; children: Christopher (Melissa) and Anne-Marie (Rick) Gunderson; grandchildren Tucker and MacKenna Johnson and Haley and Jack Gunderson; and sisters Linda Denny and Sandra (Jerry) Brenden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Freda Johnson.
