David Robert Wilmes, age 91, of North Mankato, MN, passed away on June 6, 2025, at the Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton, MN.
David was born on July 5, 1933, in Eagle Lake, MN, to Arthur Sr. and Verna (Fischer) Wilmes. He grew up working on the family farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he worked for the railroad and farmed before beginning a long career at Honeymead, now CHS, in 1958. David worked as a refineryman until his retirement.
On May 21, 1955, David married Darlene Linde. Together, they shared a life full of love and memories. David was proud to teach all of his grandchildren how to fish, a pastime he cherished. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Gophers football teams. In his younger years, David and Darlene loved camping together.
David is survived by his wife Darlene of North Mankato; children: Debra DePyper, Deidre Wilmes, Darla Regalado, Denise Wilmes, Dawn (Jeff) Dahline, and Darin Wilmes; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers and 6 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Douglas and Dale, 2 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, June 10, at St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Mapleton Community Home and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care.
