George W. Warrant

George Wellington Warrant Jr, a lifelong resident of Kasota, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at Mayo Health Systems Hospital Mankato at the age of 96.

Born December 9, 1928, to George W. Warrant Sr and Lois Elizabeth (Hiersche) Warrant Kendall, George was the sole child of a farming family rooted in the soil and spirit of southern Minnesota. A proud steward of the land, George dedicated his life to maintaining and growing the Warrant family farm, which already was a multi-generational farm that came under his care. The Warrant farm was recognized as a Minnesota Centennial Farm—a testament to over 100 years of continuous family ownership and agricultural dedication.

A forward-thinking and committed advocate for modern farming, George was instrumental in transitioning to feedlot-style cattle operation, a model still widely used today. He served on numerous local farm cooperative boards and held many state and national leadership roles including on the National Livestock Feeders Association. His impact on the cattle industry and rural communities was profound and enduring, ensuring that family farms across the nation would grow and change with the times.

George’s faith was central to his life. A devoted and life-long member, and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Kasota, he served on session and multiple committees. He represented the congregation for many decades at Presbytery and served as vice moderator of the Presbytery. He sang in the church choir and assisted in worship services. His leadership, quiet wisdom, and dedication were deeply appreciated by his church family locally and beyond.

George shared 63 loving years of marriage with his wife, Claire Anne (Buckeye) Warrant. Married in the First Presbyterian Church of Mankato in 1950, together they raised six children and grounded their family with faith, integrity, and service. When Claire Anne and George moved to their cabin home on Lake Washington full-time, the farm never gave up its hold on George and they moved between the houses on the property several times.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Claire Anne; son, Peter; and son-in-law, Greg Iden.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, George William (Rhonda) Mueller-Warrant, Lois Mae (Casey) Warren, Charlotte Hanson, Mary Iden, and David Warrant. George is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Zachary, Eli, Piper (Peter), Shane (Stephanie), Tiffany (Nick), Liberty (Tim), Nate, Chris (Michelle), Alex, Annie, Leah, Cassel, Daniel and Jessica (Eric). Also left to remember George’s legacy are great-grandchildren, Calvin, Aleister, Luna, Gabi, Leo, Angel, Sterling, Gavin, Hayden, Addison, Alison, Behn, Ophelia, Claire and Michael. George is also survived by his good friend, Margo.

George will be remembered by the many dear friends, neighbors, and members of the farming community whose lives he touched over the decades. Whether through his leadership in agriculture, his faithful presence in church or his generous spirit, George left a lasting imprint on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

George’s legacy of innovation, humility, service, and steadfast faith will live on through his family and the land he so loved.
