Gerald E. Pfeifer (Jerry), 86, of St. Peter, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, in the comfort of his home.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Catholic Church of St. Peter.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Internment at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. The service will be livestreamed at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com

Jerry was born 11/28/36 in Kasson, MN to Hazel and George Pfeifer. He graduated from Wells High School in 1954. After high school, Jerry joined the US Army, was deployed to Germany for 18 months and honorably discharged in 1957. In 1957 he enrolled at Mankato State College.

In 1962, he married Nancy Lee Miller. In 1965, they moved to St. Peter where they raised their two children. In 1963, he began working at the St. Peter State Hospital. After 31 years, he retired to enjoy his hobbies of reading and gardening. Anyone who knew him, knew he was meticulous when it came to his yard, garage, and tools.  He was an avid sports enthusiast; especially when it came to following the sports of his children and grandchildren.

In 1966, he received his BA from Mankato State College and in 1972 his Master’s Degree.

Community Service:  Jerry served 28 years on the St. Peter City Council and was a member of the St. Peter Hospital Commission for 37 years. He was a member the Chamber of Commerce. For 40 years, he cooked chicken for the annual 4th of July Celebration. In 2011, he was honored to be the Grand Marshal of the 4th of July parade. He was a member of the St. Peter American Legion Club. While his children were in school, he was active in the baseball, hockey, and football association. He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy, children Polly and Jon (Tanya), brother Rick (Deb), brother-in-law, Larry (Karen), grandchildren Tara (Ashley), Ryan (Courtney), nephews Chad, Thomas (Brianna), niece Jill (Adam), great niece / nephews, Lily, Luke, and Wyatt.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and George Pfeifer, in-laws Jean and Harold Miller, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Catholic Church of St. Peter and Mayo Clinic Health System, Atten:  Hospice.
