Hannah Leona Herberg

H. Leona (Uphoff) Herberg was born in Stevens County Minnesota on February 15, 1931 to Martha (Valentien) and Arthur Uphoff. She was a 1949 graduate of Hoffmann High School and furthered her education at Lutheran Deaconess of Nursing, where she earned her Registered Nursing Degree. She worked as a registered nurse at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital, Community Hospital and Minnesota State Hospital.

On August 7, 1954, she married Roger Herberg in Morris Minnesota. Together they resided on the family farm in Nicollet County. Leona was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church – St. Peter where she taught Sunday School, worked in the church library and was a part of the Stephen Ministry. She had a very strong faith and demonstrated it frequently in everyday life. She additionally volunteered at the St. Peter Food Shelf. She enjoyed traveling, especially the mountains, and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and always had a treat, game or story ready.

When Leona moved to town from her farm in Lake Prairie Township, she found a new passion. She adopted the neighborhood children & was known as “grandma” to a new crowd. She kept busy supplying cookies, bandaging knees, and enjoying her new village.

She is survived by children:  Steven (Kathy), Mark (Betty), Paul (Atti) and Jane (Paul) Johnson; Anthony and Bryan; grandchildren Matthew (Becca), Megan, Molly (Ethan), David (Kate), Cory, Lisa (Chris) Max, Madeleine (Marcel), Aaron (Rachel), Alyssa and Becca; great grandchildren:  Wyatt, Lane, Tess, Mark, Hannah, Sophia, Ava and Ryden; siblings: Gary Uphoff and Bernice Wotzka, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death her parents, husband, Roger Herberg, and brothers Donald and Arthur.
