Harold Leo Van Dorsten, age 95 of St. Peter, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Benedictine Living in St. Peter.
Visitation is 1:00-4:00pm Sunday, November 1st at St. Peter Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 1:00pm Monday at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Peter. Memorials can be directed to BENCHS.
Harold Leo was born June 8, 1925 in Gales Township, Redwood County MN to Maynard F. and Bertha K. (Larson) Van Dorsten. He graduated from Milroy High School and enlisted in the US Army, serving in WWII. On June 22, 1949 he was united in marriage to Velma E. Giersdorf in Tracy MN.
They resided in St. Peter where he worked for Gustavus Adolphus College for 30 years as an engineer in the physical plant. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and the St. Peter American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, listening to baseball on the radio, playing cards, doing puzzles, reading westerns and playing cribbage. Harold was very social and never passed up a chance to be around others to talk, joke around and laugh. He enjoyed time with his family and his new great granddaughter had his heart from the start.
Left to remember Harold are his children: Reid of Mankato, Brent of Colorado and Kelley (David) Carr of St. Peter; grandchildren: Andrew (Elizabeth) Carr; Angela (Terry) McDonough and Jamie Alsleben; great grandchildren: Rachel McDonough and Abigail Lee Carr; sister Helen Haynes; brother Gerald; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Lee Van Dorsten; and wife Velma in 2019.
Special thanks and appreciation to Benedictine and ALL of the people there that have befriended and worked with Harold. Your care and dedication mean so much.
