Obituary

Henry “Hank” Harvey Sadler was born October 7, 1941, in Pearsall, Texas, to Marshall Bey and Gladys L. (White) Sadler. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in Duluth, Minnesota. He then entered the U.S. Air Force in February 1961, serving on active duty for over 21 years and retiring as a Master Sergeant on October 31, 1982.

His assignments while serving in the Air Force Medical Corps included Hancock Field AFB in Syracuse, New York; Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas; Osan AFB in Korea; Morón AFB in Seville, Spain; Zweibrücken AFB in Germany; and Kelly AFB in San Antonio, Texas. He also served temporary duty assignments at Itazuke AFB in Japan and Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya, in addition to serving as an Air Force recruiter for five years in Mankato, Minnesota.

Hank married his high school sweetheart, Gretchen Schmeling, on June 17, 1961, in Duluth, Minnesota.

He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Lyle C. Pearson Sr. Chapter 10 in Mankato, Minnesota (Past Commander), American Legion Post 510 in Nicollet, Minnesota (Post Commander), and VFW Post 1220 in Saint Peter, Minnesota (Post Commander). He served as the DAV State Commander for the Minnesota Disabled American Veterans from 1989–1990 and again from 2004–2005. He was also a board member of the Minnesota DAV Foundation Committee and the Veterans 4 Veterans Trust Fund.

Hank was a member of the Masonic Lodge in St. Peter, Minnesota, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Rochester, Orient of Minnesota.

He served as Nicollet County Veterans Service Officer from 1984 to 2007 and County Emergency Manager from 1987 to 2007. Hank was elected State President of the Minnesota County Veterans Service Officers Association for 1988–1989 and State President of the Minnesota Association of Emergency Managers for 2005–2006.

Following retirement from Nicollet County, Henry “Hank” proudly served as a volunteer bone marrow courier for the National Marrow Donation Program for six years, transporting life-saving organs throughout the United States and Europe.

He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter, Minnesota.

Hank is survived by his wife, Gretchen; daughters: Trudy Sadler Bosworth Tatum of Ames, Iowa, and her husband, Fred Tatum, and Elizabeth Anne Sadler of Cinzano, Italy, and her husband, Paolo Provero; Grandchildren: Laura, Matthew, and Rachel Bosworth, and Emma and Martin Provero; great grandchildren: Charles Helmich and Henry Bosworth; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys (White) Sadler; his father, Marshall Bey Sadler; his brother, Magnes Marshall Sadler; and his sisters: Aletta Hazel (Sadler) Boise, Henrietta (Sadler) Jones, and Maimi (Sadler) Johnston.

Memorial Service will be 11:00am Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Union Presbyterian Church, St. Peter. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00pm Tuesday at St. Peter Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 6:00pm. Visitation will continue 10:00am Wednesday at church. Burial will be at the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Preston MN. In lieu of flowers, please donate to: DAV Chapter 10 – Mankato, Mankato VFW, Nicollet Legion 510 or Minnesota Veterans 4 Veterans Trust Fund (V4V.org).
