She taught one year in Winterhaven FL, then returned to MN teaching in Montgomery and St. Peter. She married Duane A. Schultz on August 15, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran in Mankato. Janet took time away from teaching to raise her family, and later was one of the founders of Little Lambs Preschool in 1980. Upon her retirement from teaching in 2002, she began a new career in writing. She was an award-winning published author and had three historical fiction children’s novels. She was active in her church, the Art Center, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Night Writers, Genre du Jour and the Institute of Children’s Literature Network. Janet enjoyed calligraphy, playing organ, cooking for her loved ones, being a grandma and especially spending time with her family.
