Lola Ann Douglas

January 17, 1927 — April 28, 2025

St. Peter, MN

Lola Ann Douglas passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025 at Ecumen Prairie Hill in St. Peter. Lola was born on January 17, 1927, in Caledonia, MN to Anton and Evelyn (Norskog) Findreng. She graduated from Houston High School and was admitted to the WW2 Cadet Nurse Corps at the University of Minnesota. Following her graduation, she married James Rough and they moved to Dubuque Iowa, and welcomed a daughter Pamela. James died tragically and Lola & Pam returned to Houston where her parents and extended family resided. She returned to the U of M to obtain a certification in public health while also working at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse. She obtained a job with Houston County Public Health and purchased a home in Houston. After a few years as a single parent she met and married the new veterinarian in town Kendric Douglas. Together they welcomed three additional children, Stuart, Steven and Emily. In 1969 the family moved to St. Peter. Here she worked at St. Peter Community Hospital followed by an 18 year career with Nicollet County Public Health. She enjoyed her various nursing experiences and was grateful for her educational opportunities.

Despite moving to St. Peter in her 40’s, this became her home. She made friends many ways including through her church, PEO and even a knitting club. She loved her times with the Ladies of the Lake and trips with her sister Carol. She enjoyed golf, painting and other crafts; and she had a passion for bridge. She loved to shop especially for clothes and she was a classy dresser to the very end. Most of all Lola enjoyed time with her family. She loved attending their sporting events, dance performances and school activities. Trips to Nebraska, Houston and Family gatherings at “The Condo” were a favorite and she enjoyed any opportunity to spend with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s James Rough and Kendric Douglas and her sister Carol Findreng.

Lola is survived children Pam (Peter) Orr, Jennifer and Carrie; Stuart (Jeanne) Douglas, Amy and Hallie; Steven (Kelly) Douglas, Bradley and Mallory; Emily (Teresa) Douglas, Amanda, Ashley and Aaron; and their spouses and families including 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The funeral will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Church. The Family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate staff at both Ecumen Prairie Hill and St Croix Hospice. Memorials can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or to St. Croix Hospice.
