Marcelyn was born May 8, 1932 in Faribault County to Adrian and Helen (Schuler) Brakke. As the oldest of five daughters, she frequently worked with her father on the farm doing chores, helping in the fields and milking cows. Marcy participated in many activities in high school as a cheerleader, gymnast, and viola player in the orchestra. Her love of math was passed on to her sons and grandsons. On December 1, 1950 Marcy was united in marriage to George Christensen at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. She worked in a variety of areas from waitress to positions in retail and manufacturing. She finally retired from her dream job after over 20 years at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center working with challenged adults. Marcy enjoyed TV Westerns, country western music and gardening. She participated in powder puff demo derbys and the Ladies Roadrunner softball team in the Men's League. For many years she assisted at church with Bible school and release time. Marcy was a protector and supporter of family and those close to her. She will be remembered as a strong, resourceful, caring, determined, and hard working woman.
Marcy is survived by daughters: Sharon (Bill) Watts, and Shirley (Dan) Nickel; grandchildren: Tina Johnson, Aaron (Caitlyn) Nickel, Stephanie Neubert, Timothy Watts, and Sophia Christensen; great-grandchildren: Arthur and Jesse; son-in-law: Brian Nutt; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Christensen; sister, Joyce (Rollie) Fuller; brother-in-law Dick Silbernick; "bonus" granddaughter, Pam Neubert; and many other relatives and friends.
