Margaret Ann (Johnson) Wenner, 93, died on Tuesday, May 12 in her home at Ecumen Prairie Hill. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 15, and one hour prior to service at the Church. Burial at the Calvary Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Margaret was born on September 5, 1932, to Karl and Julia (Laumann) Johnson in New Sweden. She was the youngest of four children. Margaret attended the District 6 School in New Sweden Township and then graduated from St. Peter High School in 1950. She got her Elementary Education degree from Mankato State University. Margaret worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Kaisersatt during college. She was an elementary teacher in Gaylord and St. Peter. Margaret loved working on her brother’s farm in Gaylord in her younger years and then with her husband on the farm in Traverse and Oshawa townships.
Margaret married her high school sweetheart, Merton Wenner, on June 27, 1955, after he served in the Korean War. They had six children: Teresa, Steven, Bradley, Lisa, Douglas and Ann. They were loving and attentive parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. She enjoyed hosting holidays, reading, singing in the church choir, gardening, playing bingo, bowling, playing cards, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Margaret loved watching her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. After surviving cancer twice, she was passionate about supporting others and fundraising for cancer research through Daffodil Days and Relay For Life of the American Cancer Society.
Margaret is survived by children: Teresa (Joe) Kienlen, Brad (Dawn), Lisa, Doug (Nancy) and Ann (Jeff) Volk; 12 grandchildren: Matt, David (Lasa), Kevin (Christina) Kienlen, Sarah (Tyler) Engberg, Jason (Anna), Amy Zempel, Ben (Corena), Emily Jointer, Jordan Volk, Taylor Volk (Pat), Brianna, and Bailey (Lucas) Schwope; 19 great grandchildren; brother in-law Ken (Phyllis) Wenner and sister in-law, Donna Zins; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2021, son Steven in 2020, daughters-in-law Yvette and Peggy, and siblings: Lolly (Al) Kleifgen, Karl Jr. (Mildred) Johnson, and Mavis (Bruce) Jewison and in-laws: Gene (Betty), Marianne (Butch) Sohre, Don (Ruth), Skip (Margaret), Clete (Marlys), Wendell (Marlene and Dot), and Paul Zins.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society (Nicollet County Relay For Life) or the Church of St. Peter.
