Melissa “Missy” Ann Palmquist, age 47 of rural Nicollet, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021 after a long battle with dementia.
Funeral service is 2:30pm Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at St. Peter Funeral Home with visitation at 1:30pm. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Peter. Memorials can be directed to Mayo Clinic Health System Mankato Hospice. Condolences for the family can be left at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.
Missy was born December 17, 1973 in Butte, Montana. She grew up with her parents and siblings next door to her paternal grandparents along the Rabbit Road, near Kasota. She attended St. Peter schools and graduated high school in 1992. In her early twenties, Missy enjoyed living in the Texas heat and trips to the beach and Mexico. She spent many years bartending at Mac’s Bar and Café in Mankato and loved spending time with her friends there.
Missy loved her house in the country, especially the private bridge. She always had big ideas for projects at home. She converted much of the large yard to flower beds, landscaping, a fish pond, and a hand dug duck pond. Missy and her boyfriend also spent considerable time making improvements to the house. She loved hosting parties and enjoyed sitting around the campfire with good friends, food, and drink.
Missy adored all her pets, including her chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, her guard goose named Dolla, and her cats Nala and Duce, but especially her dogs Maci, Otis, and Rooney. She had a particularly special bond with her German Shepard, Niko.
Missy enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her boyfriend’s grandkids and her nieces and nephew.
Missy’s personality was larger than her stature and she wasn’t inclined to take grief from anyone. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Left to remember Missy are her boyfriend, Mike Bauer; brother, Todd (Shirin Butler) Palmquist and their daughter Priya; sister Amy (Mark) Schaetzke and their children Orlin and Cora; paternal grandmother, Rosella Palmquist; and aunts and uncles: Jeanette (Walter) Momot, Virginia (Roger) Cooper, Diane (Meb) Qureshi, Donna Miller, Vernon (Janet) Miller, and Linda Lou (Harvey) Bever. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sandra L. (Miller) and Allan J. Palmquist; paternal grandfather, Albin Palmquist; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Bernice Miller; and uncle, David Miller.
