Melvin "Mel" Noel Goede

December 24, 1937 — July 24, 2021

Melvin “Mel” Noel Goede, age 83, of Cleveland passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 surrounded by his adoring family after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Public visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the St. Peter Funeral Home. Private family memorial service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Cleveland.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cleveland.

Mel had been married to the love of his life, Louise, for almost 50 years. Together, they raised a blended family of 5 children creating a loving home with many happy memories. Mel was a beloved and respected principal at Cleveland Public Schools for 26 years. He was a quiet man known for his quirky jokes and one-liners. He was also a man of many hobbies. He enjoyed singing with the Mankato Riverblenders, woodworking and creating several masterpieces for his family, “roughing” quilts for his wife (we’re still not exactly sure what that means, but that was how he described this hobby when he first retired), golfing, drinking beer, fishing, crossword puzzles, and traveling the world. After his retirement, Mel could be found walking the streets of Cleveland on a daily basis, caring for his grandchildren and watching the birds and squirrels from the rocking chair by his front window. He would often surprise us with his outrageous ideas and antics. Mel’s bright blue eyes, friendly smile and beautiful voice will be missed by so many.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise; children, Paul Deshayes, Jon (Heather) Deshayes, James Goede, Sara (Brent) Rundle; grandchildren, Emily Simmerly, Sam (Ben) Olsen, Nick Goede, Jenna Goede, Jacob Rundle, Derek Rundle, Tyler Rundle, Evan Deshayes, and Emily Deshayes; great-grandchildren, Eloise, Timmy, Juliette, and Sebastian Simmerly, and Luella Olsen; son-in-law, Tom (Chris) Christensen; siblings, Gene (Joann) Goede. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tami Christensen, and brother, David Goede.
