Robert "Bob" Timothy Moline

Robert “Bob” Timothy Moline, husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away at the age of 90 on January 23, 2024, after six months of health challenges including dementia.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, St. Peter with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. St. Peter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bob was born on June 8, 1933, in Gary, Indiana to Heloise and Ragnar Moline.

Bob received his B.A. degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois in 1955. While there he met his future wife, Janet Reedquist and they married in 1957.

After college he served his country in the Air Force from 1955-1959 as an instructor in the weather training program and then overseas in France where he was recognized for his skills in teaching while holding the post of Chief Weather Observer. The experiences in the Air Force prompted to Bob to pursue a career in teaching. When he and Jan returned to the United States, he completed a master’s degree in geography at the University of Illinois in 1959 and a Ph. D at the University of Minnesota in 1969. In 1961 he took a job as the first professor of geography at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. He worked to expand the geography department both in size and scope. He founded with other professors the Environmental Studies program and was a devoted supporter of the Gustavus Arboretum—both serving on the board and tending flowers. In recognition of his contributions, the college awarded Bob with the Edgar M. Carlson Distinguished Teacher Award in 1987.

Bob was involved in the St. Peter community as well. He served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, he was part of the Riverbend Association working on regional planning, and the governor appointed him to the Minnesota Water Resources Board.

After the death of Jan, Bob met Kay and they enjoyed 23 years of wonderful, loving marriage. Bob embraced Kay’s family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Bob found travel to be an endless source of learning and appreciation. Bob considered the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Italy among his most cherished places. Bob enjoyed caring for the house, yard, trees, and especially flowers. He had a passion for music and sang in many different choirs.

Bob is survived by wife, Kay; daughter; Karen (Ron) Wallin; son, Jeff (Kristin Groth), and stepdaughter, Kerry Antrim; his cherished brothers, Chez (Karla) and Norm (Janet); grandchildren, Dakota Wallin, Rachel Moline, Margaret Moline, Danielle Antrim, Tasha Antrim, and great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Madelynn, Esperanza, Vivianna, and Jack, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet, and his parents.

The family would like to thank Ecumen Hospice, and the Benedictine Living Community for their wonderful care.
