Roger L. Leonard, age 90, of St. Peter, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025 surrounded by family.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, St. Peter. Visitation will be 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Roger was born on April 2, 1935 to Lawrence and Rose (Chouanard) Leonard of rural St. Peter. He attended St. Peter High School graduating in 1953. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army and served as a private for two years during the Korean conflict. On April 23, 1956 he married Marlene Keltgen. They adopted two daughters and spent the majority of their family life on the Leonard home farm. Roger farmed with his brother, Clem under Leonard Pork Farms. Roger served as a board member at Nicollet County Bank, Shoreland Country Club and Traverse Township. He was also a member of the St. Peter American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He cherished his retirement years as a snowbird in sunny Florida enjoying spending time outdoors golfing, bike riding, and taking daily walks with his wife. Eventually the couple became known as “the walkers” in both Minnesota and Florida.
Roger is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughters, Laura (Bob) Witty and Linda (Cliff) Mills; two grandsons, Daniel Burg and Mitchell (Lia) Burg; step-grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Witty, Missy Leighton, and Tim (Nikki) Witty; three great-grandchildren, Rayna, Rachel, and Beau Burg; siblings, Lorraine Owen, Jim Leonard, Bill (Judy) Leonard, Clem (Betty) Leonard, Helen Churchill, and Agnes (Joe) Shields; brother-in-law, Jim Oak; along with many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty (Patrick) Sexton, Mary (Donald) Loizeaux, Margaret (Clifford) Wenner, and Joanie Oak; sister-in-law, Florence Leonard; and brothers-in-law, Bob Churchill and Ray Owen.
The family would like to thank the staff at both Pheasants Ridge Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice, Mankato for the wonderful care and compassion they provided Roger during his final journey.
