Thomas J. Osborne, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on his farm in rural St. Peter on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 3 at the Catholic Church of St. Peter with Monsignor Doug Grams and Father Phil Schotzko officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00AM-11:00AM at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter.
Tom was born in Mankato on August 23, 1947. He was the fifth out of seven children born to Raymond and Charlotte Osborne. He attended John Ireland School and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1965. After graduation, Tom served in the Army as a Medic in Vietnam for two years. On June 6, 1981, Tom married Kay Mulloy in Timber Lake, South Dakota, and together they raised three sons on their farm.
Tom helped his brother and brothers-in-law with farming until he owned his own farm. He was always most content on the farm he bought in the early 1970’s where he raised pigs until the mid 1990’s and then continued to grow crops until his retirement from farming in 2013. Tom could often be found outside splitting wood because he appreciated the warmth of a fire in his wood-burning stove. When something was broken, he was able to find creative ways to fix the problem. Tom was a skilled woodcarver, and he did beautiful oil paintings as well. He passed his love of woodworking on to his sons. He enjoyed being in nature, gardening, watching Gunsmoke, and playfully teasing his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife Kay of almost 44 years; three sons Jon, Jeremy, and Josh (Kim); grandchildren Rhoady, Ava, Rose, and Hannah; sisters Kay (Bill) Brown, Joan Osborne, Rita Thelemann, Sister Mary Ann Osborne, and Debra Osborne; sister-in-law Sharon Osborne, and many members of his extended Osborne and Mulloy families.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Charlotte Osborne, brother Bill Osborne, and brothers-in-law.
