Velma Estelle Van Dorsten

Velma Estelle Van Dorsten, age 87 of St. Peter, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Benedictine Living in St. Peter.

Funeral is 11:00 am Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Union Presbyterian Church, St. Peter. Visitation is 4:00-7:00pm Friday, October 18th at St. Peter Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church. www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.

Velma was born June 2, 1932 in Witten South Dakota to Walter and Dulcie (McManigal) Giersdorf. She was raised in the Lamberton MN area and attended Lamberton schools. On June 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to Harold Van Dorsten in Tracy MN. They resided in St. Peter where she was a mother and homemaker. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and a faithful member of AA. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchild and was an excellent Pfeffer partner.

Left to remember Velma are her husband of 70 years, Harold; children: Reid of Mankato, Brent of Colorado and Kelley (David) Carr of St. Peter; grandchildren: Andrew (Elizabeth) Carr; Angela (Terry) McDonough and Jamie Alsleben; great grandchild: Rachel McDonough; sister: Jane Schoer of Coon Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Lee Van Dorsten; sisters: Twyla Giersdorf, Audrey Wilson and Elna Dammann; brothers: Leonard, Odem, Lyle, Floyd, Lloyd, Donald and Lowel Giersdorf.
