Merwin C. Williams

May 10, 1926 — March 5, 2019

Merwin “Mer” Charles Williams, age 92, of St. Peter, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019 of congenital heart failure at his home.

Memorial Service 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2019 at First Lutheran Church, St. Peter.  Visitation will be from 1:30-3:00 p.m.  Sunday at the church with service following.  Family interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery.  St. Peter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Merwin was born May 10, 1926 to Harold E. and Emily M. (Jones) Williams in Mankato.  He graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1942.

Merwin served his country with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from 1949-52 during the Korean Conflict.  Merwin was united in marriage to Joan F. Krause on September 24, 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Amboy. 

Merwin farmed in Lake Crystal from 1952-1985 and then he was employed at Mankato State University until he retired in 1997.  He was a past Blue Earth County 4-H Council President, past president of four Holstein Associations, past church usher, church council, and choir member for many years.   He enjoyed showing purebred Hosteins at county, regional, and State fairs for 35 years.  Merwin and Joan moved to St. Peter in 1995.  Merwin enjoyed most sports, bowling, playing cards, helping people, and keeping busy.

Merwin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan Williams of St. Peter; son, Jerry Williams of Duluth; two grandsons, Joseph Williams and Michael Williams; brother, Burton Williams of Lake Crystal; niece, nephews, and cousins.

Merwin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul in September 2009; sister-in-law, Lavern Williams.
